Produced by the Kweichow Moutai Company (贵州茅台酒股份有限公司), this is the most well-known brand of Baijiu in the world. It is considered a luxury item within Chinese culture, with a long and rich history.
It is is named after the town of Moutai in China, where it is exclusively produced (Guizhou province). Much like Champagne or Cognac, Moutai, the spirit, can only be used by spirits produced in the town of Moutai.
This brand Kweichow Moutai, was officially named as the ‘National Liquor of China’ in 1949 by Zhou Enlai, the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China. Moutai plays a significant role in the history of China’s diplomacy and is integrated into traditional drinking culture of China.
Moutai is distilled from only 3 ingredients: sorghum, wheat and water (from the pristine Chishui river). Moutai’s complex taste and aroma is attributed to its unique production process, and ingredients, which are harvested according to the Lunar calendar.
