House of Hazelwood Charles Gordon Collection The Cask Trials Vintage 1968, 53 Year Old 49.2%

49.2% | 70cl | Single Grain | Limited Edition | 100% Sherry Matured | High/ Cask Strength

Distilled in 1968 and matured for 53 years in a single sherry butt, this remarkable Sherry Cask Single Grain Whisky showcases the potential of grain to achieve great complexity and depth of character when given time and care. Crafted from an unlikely marriage of European oak and Girvan grain, this is today almost unrecognisable as grain whisky but with a delicious underlying richness that reveals its roots.

Matured exclusively in a single sherry cask for a remarkable 53 years, bottled at natural cask strength, free from added colour, and is non-chill filtered. Only 303 bottles were released worldwide.

Tasting notes

NOSE: Rich and indulgent on the nose with notes of treacle, toffee and caramel.

PALATE: The palate is sweet to start with a lively drying oak character and sweet sherbet aftertaste.

House of Hazelwood is an unrivalled collection of rare aged Scotch whiskies.

Laid down by generations of the Gordon family (of William Grant & Son, that own Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Grants).

For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.

Today, the House of Hazelwood collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, the ambitions and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated again.

Several decades in the making, this once-private collection is finally open to collectors and enthusiasts to explore.
