Founded in 1798, Blair Athol is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries and also the most visited. The distillery sits in the quaint town of Pitlochry, in the picturesque Perthshire area, a great location for whisky distilling as it makes way to the Scottish Highlands.
Blair Athol was historically linked to the famous Bell’s Blended Scotch, where it would provide a rich and fruity backbone. We are looking for that fruity quality when selecting casks from Blair Athol; red apples, orange peel and liquorice are the qualities people love to see when exploring casks from Blair Athol.
This 9 Year Old release came from refill cask 313190, which yielded just 543 bottles at 59.3% abv.
Distillery tasting notes
NOSE: Lively with floral and grassy notes, leading to white peaches and tangy orange juice. Hints of fresh mint and warm cereal biscuity notes.
PALATE: Dried orange peel and toasted gingerbread and soft hints of spice. Sweeter citrus notes develop into honey and sweet cinnamon. With water added, creamy vanilla fudge, baking spices, jam tarts, and peppery oak come to the fore.
FINISH: Medium to long finish with notes of caramelised lemon, shaved oak, white pepper, honey and warming spices of cloves and caramelised vanilla.
