This single grain from Dumbarton is part of Duncan Taylor’s Premium Octave series, which has undergone a second maturation in octave casks to refine the whisky, enhancing its colour, taste, form and character.
The Octave Premium Range was launched in August 2019 showcasing years of maturation expertise in Octave casks, which are about 1/8th the size of a butt and each one creates around 80 to 100 bottles casks.
Dumbarton distillery was founded by Hiram Walker in 1938. It was a large grain distillery which also supported the Inverleven malt distilling plant, where the first Lomond still was developed. Dumbarton distillery was closed and mothballed in 2002. It has been slowly demolished over the years and residential housing now stands in its place.
Tasting notes: Rich with butterscotch, and cream biscuits. Big fruity notes of baked apples and pears mingle with a refined sherry influence, producing a complex whisky that opens up more as time goes by.
