Springbank Local Barley (2023) 11 Year Old 55.1%

As the name suggest the local barley grown in or around Campbeltown was used in the production of this bottling. The barley was malted on Springbank’s own malting floors using age old techniques. Matured in a combination of 55% ex-sherry, 35% ex-bourbon, 10% ex-rum casks. Only 15,000 were made available worldwide.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: There are aromas of papaya, mango and lemon, along with subtle floral notes on the nose.

Palate: Citrus elements combined with notes of manuka honey and pear drops.

Finish: Salty, mineral flavours develops over time with soft peat smoke on the finish.

The Local Barley Series is one of Springbank’s most highly anticipated and this year’s edition is no exception. Initially planned to be a series of just five bottles, due to its popularity it is now part of the Springbank range as an annual limited release. 

Each year, they use different barley varieties, grown by different local farmers and up until now either matured fully in bourbon or mainly bourbon with some sherry influence.
